Watsu

Watsu or Water Shiatsu is a passive form of aquatic therapy that incorporates the principles of Zen Shiatsu into a controlled 94 to 96 degree water temperature. During a Watsu session, you and a practitioner enter the pool. The practitioner will then support you at your neck and lower back. Your ears are just below the water’s surface and the only sound you hear is the beating of your heart and the inhalation/exhalation of your own breath. The therapist will then move you through a series of rocking and rotational movements while the emphasis is placed on stretching the chakras and meridians that correspond to points in acupuncture, releasing blocked energy. Being submerged in warm water promotes circulation, while unloading weight-bearing joints from the effects of gravity. After the session you may experience deep relaxation and increased range of motion.

During your Watsu session at Galter LifeCenter, you will receive therapeutic and individualized assessments. Your therapist will create and tailor therapeutic goals to your needs to enhance health, wellness and the quality of life.

Watsu has been used within a general wellness population and as a measure to manage medical symptoms associated with arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, sleep disorders, orthopedic disorders and other medical conditions.
