How do I choose the right class for me?
Speak with any of our fitness specialists or contact the group fitness supervisor to help find the right class for you.

What do I need to know before I attend my first class?
Arrive approximately 15 minutes before class to meet the instructor. They will ensure you are comfortable and answer any questions you have. They will also ask you some questions and decide if you would benefit from any modification.  After the class, be sure to talk with the instructor, let him or her know how you felt and if anything was particularly challenging for you.  The instructor can then make modifications for your next class.

What do I need to bring?
A towel, water bottle and your energy.

What should I wear?
The most important thing is to be comfortable. Feel free to ask our fitness staff or the supervisor if you are not sure of what to wear.

If I have a change in health status what is my responsibility (e.g. pregnant, arthritis, heart condition)?
After your health care provider has cleared you for exercise, you should arrive early to class and speak with your instructor so that he or she can provide you with appropriate modifications.

How do I monitor my intensity during class?
Hopefully you have taken advantage of getting started with your PFS (Personal Fitness Strategy) and were provided with your intensity goals. If so then it is your responsibility to monitor your intensity in any of the following ways:

  • Heart rate monitor
  • Perceived exertion chart
  • Talk test
If you need any assistance with these methods please see a fitness specialist, personal trainer or any instructor. To develop your Personal Fitness Strategy click here>

Please arrive on time for class; if you are not present in class 5 minutes after the class start time your spot may be forfeited to a waitlist participant.

  • The final stretch and relaxation section is a very important fitness component of class. Please stay until the end of the session and take time to stretch the muscles you've just worked. It may be disruptive to your fellow members to pack up and leave with a minute or two left of class so if you need to leave early, consult with your instructor prior to class starting.
  • If it is your first time to a class, please introduce your self to the instructor before it begins.
  • Please bring your towel with you and lay it down on the exercise mat during any floor work.
  • For your own safety, shoes are required during exercise, unless otherwise stated for specific classes.
  • Please change into your workout shoes prior to entering the studios with the exception of cycling shoes with clips. Cycling shoes can be put on once your cycle is set up and you are on the black mat. They should be removed before leaving the mat so the floor does not get scratched.
  • Your full attention to the workout and instructor is appreciated; avoid lengthy conversations with other participants during class.
  • Talking on cell phones is not allowed in the studios.
  • All classes are designed to provide results in a safe, effective and fun environment.

"As a cardiologist and internist I believe in the importance of regular exercise. I try to exercise 3 times a week either at Galter LifeCenter or running outside (while the weather holds). It's still possible to attend an individual exercise session with a trainer at Galter LifeCenter. Exercise can also be done at home on a regular basis with their virtual classes." -Franklin Saksena, M.D.
